You know what I am going to say Gennaro. Prepare for a storm.

This whole site has served us all well during a certain period, and times are about to change very fast. I don't know when. Perhaps this year. In any case we are far from ready.

The look is not good enough. Middle aged, amateur, mumsy.

The structure is not good enough.

The energy is not good enough.

But you Gennaro, are ready. Personally, you are so ready.

I suppose this new year thing starts with hexagram 41. Let us all put our hearts in harmony and keep our focus on the people and answers that the collective need to "understand", "experience" and share all this. My advice is for anyone here to check out what sites you personally find to have the styling and punch to attract busy professionals, and the MTV generation.

If you happen to be a busy professional, or under 25, does this site rock?

Gennaro what would a YOUNG designer, someone fresh out of art school, tuned into the styles and trends about to come, what would they bring to this visually? What do we need ergonomically?

Check these out for a modern bold style

*** CHECK THE FORUM ON THIS ONE - STYLISH ***

Just imagine when we look back, ten years from now, and see, ah, thank goodness we were drastic, and weathered the storm in style.

As this is the link on which I am supposed to be able to join in the discussion to improve this site, my suggestion is that it should be monitored daily.

The site has been very active over the last weekend. Lots of juicy sex sites to look at and a pharmacy which appears to speak many languages has hi-jacked space.

This is not the first time I have mentioned inappropriate postings on this site.

You have a way of getting people stirred up, DW. I love the way the admin had to step in and end the threat! That was great.

YOu gotta hand it to them, they are a lively bunch.

PREPARE FOR THE TSUNAMI

Well I stick by the essence of my original post and redouble it, so there.

However I share many of the aesthetic ideals mentioned - I like elegance simplicity and impact.

But my title says it all - PREPARE FOR THE TSUNAMI.

For example, look at the energy when I posted this

http//www.derrenbrownforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=10185

We don't want that kind of behaviour here

I am sure Gennaro is following his strategy. My strategy, my sacral, mm mm mm REPENT! THE STORM IS COMING!

As for my mind?

there seems to be a power cut in my mind at this moment. Sacral says post this? mmm.

Thank you DW for starting this post and WA for continuing it. The comments are very useful to me.

The current site lacks technical integration. I want it to flow smoothly from one section to the other. There are also a lot of features that I would like to add.

I like simple, utilitarian styles. If it is a useful site nobody cares if it isn't flashy, not even the MTV people. And others will be grateful. Currently it uses simplistic colors. This was an attempt to dummy down the image of online classrooms. When I started people were in fear of the online environment. I think the style worked. Now it could get a more sophisticated look. Still simple, though.

Please suggest your favorite site, both in use and look. Anything you would like to add, take away, etc. is also appreciated.

Thanks!

Gennaro.

almost flaming

oh mike, I SO disagree!!

Not that things may be about to change. Or that HDO has an ebb of energy.

But that HDO needs to go Gee! Whizz! Snap crackle pop!! Flash!!! Audio!! Video!!! Animation!!! Irrelevant, distracting, personality-cult images. Print too tiny to read, in fonts too delicate for white-on-black text. Over-cooked styling that simply says: heyyy, I'm so cool, watch my ego. heyyyy, I'm a web designer, gimme a job.

Can HDO survive and thrive without luring 'the MTV generation' with their favourite eye-candy? Why ever not?

I do not agree that HDO is mumsy. It uses simple, transparent, generic technology. Low maintenance. Undemanding on perception and PC platforms, alike. Personally, it's such a relief to use this site, without bloody graphics dodging about in my peripheral vision, or surplus bits of imagery clogging up my bandwidth and my retina. One of the basic rules of good graphic design is: 1+1=3 or more (in other words: visual complexity multiplies geometrically, so keep everything nice'n bare).

Gennaro: the structure of the site might be more clearly signposted on the home page. The logos are a bit home-made. The colours are a bit full-hued and primary. But the site's not broke and don't need fixing. Whatever you do, don't imitate Jovian - the over-wrought styling and over-busy technology are a pain.

If you want to shift more product through the site (and I appreciate that this is what pays the rent), this may be a different issue. Courses. media. services. Personally, the forum and the chart library are what the site is about, for me. If Digital Witchdoctor is thinking about selling HD media (yes?Mike?) why not divide the home page down the middle, with free facilities down one side and pay-per services down the other? Basically, two sites from one home page. Clean design. Honest approach. Meeting the needs of those who arrive here with a casual interest and without a pocketful of money.

OK, I think I stayed the right side of flaming (?). Just a small rant ;-)

Let the wild rumpus continue!
Best wishes
