I've been a licensed analyst since, oh I guess about June 2000. And since then, I've done several readings - though not hundreds by any means.

I'd be interested to hear from other analysts what you consider a successfull reading for a client. I have, until very recently focused on "giving information", but I don't know that this plays all that well. I've thought a lot about my own reading (which I'd have to say was very successfull) and it seems that the analyst was able to:
1. Point out some things about me that nobody could really know, which gave the reading credibility.
2. Offer a couple of bits of very useful advice (e.g. with an undefined emotional center and gates 36 and 37, I'd spent my life on an emotional roller coaster that wasmn't of my own making.
3. Validate my tendency as a projector with no motors to pull up a big chair, and get comfortable.
4. Open me to an aspect of myself that I had no idea was part of me (Incarnation Cross of the Vessel of Love.

I'd like to hear from others what your experience is with giving a reading to others that will resonate with them

I find a successful reading is when the person can take their authority, strategy and apply it. I turn on those I work with when appropriate and they ask for their chart. I give them keynotes about their behavior and personality. i always start with their strategy and repeat many times, and at the end of whatever i've told them, i get them to repeat it several times. as life unfolds and incidents occur, i'll point out thru example, the not self in their behavior. open throats and emotions are easy to site over time with someone.
i feel successful when my generator friends are proud of themselves when they tell me how they waited to respond in this and that situation. they keep me informed about their strategy and how they recognize it.

This is an interesting topic for me. I've watched a lot of Analysts and they all have different styles. Some are short and sweet, others go into great detail. Some are very personal, others keep it business-like. Some give terrible readings, others amazing readings. People find each other, and if the analyst is living their strategy they find the clients who want to hear exactly what you have to say.
There seems to be a trend now to not even touch on the lines. Keep it broad - focus on strategy and authority the whole time with a background flavor of Incarnation cross and profile. Before it was all about the lines and gates. I tend to be somewhere in between depending on my instincts of what I think the person should hear.
I've gotten over trying to give the reading credibility. It's cool that this stuff knows things about people that you could never possibly guess, but that is not what it's about for me. There is too much to say about their strategy and authority to get into whether HD is valid or not. In fact I usually leave them with the advice that they should go out and disprove everything I've just told them. When they come back a few months later and tell me they were not able to disprove it, that is when the credibility is really worth something!
I keep things very short and sweet. I dream of one day being able to give a two word reading - EXACTLY the two words they needed to hear. Nothing more. Like a lightning bolt to their soul. This is because when I started I spent so much time teaching them Human Design instead of giving them what they needed that the readings were diluted. Just because it is cool and interesting does not mean it is what they need to hear in order to live their strategy. It's like teaching somebody to drive - Brakes, gas pedal, and steering wheel. They don't need to know how many cylinders the engine has!
