Is the upshot of Human Design and the key to living your individual design to be constantly aware of how you truly feel about anything presented to you, then question not the validity of the feeling but how to express the feeling externally using your individual design centers and gates?

This is an interesting question. (Note: this is obviously a question by and for emmotionally defined people only).

The first part ("question not the validity of the feeling") for me is a no brainer and I would agree with you. Trying determine the value of a feeling is not the point. It might seem like a really stupid feeling, but who cares, you are still feeling it and thus it is valid. Now, whether you ever actually do anything with the feeling is another story. It is a great indication of how you feel in that moment. But the moment will pass and so will the feeling with all the meaning it carried.

My answer to your overall question would be that it is about finding the link that all your feelings have in common. That link, that thread, is your life path. All the other feelings that do not link are side roads. They might be interesting, dramatic, important, but they are not your path. They are pit-stops, scenery, entertainment as you drive by.
For example, over a month period where you are deciding whether to move house or not your feelings towards the decision will go up, down and everything in between. But give it enough time and a common thread will emerge. That common thread will lead you to do the right thing. Only time and perspective lets you see the thread. Otherwise you could spend your whole life living in pit-stops.
Hope this helps.
